NTS — Native Terminal System

A small project that started with an interest in creating a fullscreen shader with the look and feel of an old computer terminal, but eventually grew into something more.

NTS is an interactive terminal environment built around a retro computer interface. What started as a visual experiment has evolved into a small standalone system with its own command line, applications, visual customization and interactive features.

NTS includes a command-line interface with a growing set of built-in commands and utilities.

help — Display available commands
color — Change the terminal color
exit — Shut down the terminal

The terminal also contains additional system-level commands and features that are not part of the standard command list.

glitch — Trigger a visual signal interference effect

[ APPLICATIONS ]

NTS includes several small applications designed to run directly inside the terminal environment.

image — View images through the terminal display
music — Play music through the terminal interface

More applications and utilities can be added as the system expands.

[ VISUAL CUSTOMIZATION ]

The appearance of the terminal can be customized directly through its interface.

• Change the terminal color
• Change the cursor frame style
• Change the header style
• Adjust the overall appearance of the terminal interface

These features are intended to make the terminal feel less like a static shader and more like an interactive system with its own visual identity.

[ SYSTEM & INTERFACE ]

NTS also contains several features that are part of the terminal itself rather than individual commands.

• F1 Menu — Open the system menu and access additional options
• Glitch Effect — A system-level visual effect designed to simulate signal interference
• Matrix Effect — A visual demonstration of the terminal's rendering capabilities

[ STATUS ]

NTS is still an experimental project and continues to evolve. The current version focuses on the core terminal experience, while new commands, applications and system features are being developed.

At this point, NTS is somewhere between a visual experiment, a small interactive environment and the foundation for something larger.

In the future, NTS may become a full game — or perhaps something completely different.
